July 5th Shelf Cloud
A Friday morning storm system, ahead of an approaching cold front, brought a warned cluster of storms through most of Kentucky. As the system was entering Laurel County, out of Rockcastle County, along I75 in Kentucky, this incredible shelf cloud formed ahead of the 60+ mph winds.
The layering & colors of this shelf cloud were incredible. Scud clouds along the base would form, detach, & more form as it encountered warm, humid air on the leading edge. As it continued south & east, it picked up an even more yellow/orange hue to the layers.
This aerial video was taken near exit 49 on I75, 8 miles north of London, Kentucky.

Driving below Wolf Creek Dam in 360° mode. The dam impounds Lake Cumberland in southern Kentucky. At the time, 8-10 spillways are open. The Spillways were opened about 24 hours prior, after a wetter than normal May in Kentucky. Some areas picked up 4 inches or more of rain sending the lake over 730' in elevation.

After 2-3 inches of rain upstream from Cumberland Falls. The Cumberland River was running high & muddy. A lot of debris, mostly logs and brush, was in the water. Boxing day 2023 was a sad day.
To Dickie, Tommy not "taking it" on cue was a crime against humanity. Such a nothing thing with lesser talents wouldn't have been funny at all. With these two, it was just brilliant and they've been doing it since the 1960s. How they didn't get another show after CBS canceled them, I'll never know. Had they been born even earlier, they could've dominated Vaudeville. Thanks boys.

Something very strange is going on in this area. We didn't need this kind of road in this area but I've watched trucks take away all the dirt and soil I happen to know this is more than about road work.
WOW, what these guys can sing including a song that was so popular and sang the lyrics with so much feelings. Being Hispanic I love them - I miss this show and so glad you were able to place on "UA-cam!" Love it! I loved them when they were on TV back in the 60s and missed them terribly. So happy to see them in videos to watch again. So glad they got credit for all they did for TV back in the 60s despite being fired by CBS.
Isn't it wonderful, the way Dickie joins in the bit with color comentary ? What a pair ! What a team ! What love they showed us, even in their apparent sibling rivalries. How could we not relate ? How could we not love them ? They held us in their palms . We never had a chance . Enlightening and timeless as the sun itself !

This seemed appropriate for today. Some folks eat cabbage and black-eyed peas on New Year's Day. I'm personally not a fan. The clip is obviously from the 80s. Hosiery is a rare sight these days. But the Smothers Brothers remained funny for decades. RIP Tom. Stay healthy, Dick. Thanks for all the laughs and great songs. They did one album where they mostly played the songs straight.

Pure entertainment. Like Carson their talent was not overwhelming, but they knew how to use what they had and present it in a manner the public loved. No swearing no drugs no hidden agenda. The best showmen are able to illustrate that it's because of their fans they are entertaining, always showing humility to the audience.
I think you have complete missed the amount of influence they had on television and comedy and music in general. Not only was their singing and specifically Tommy's guitar playing superb. Their topical comedy was presented with fantastic timing and showmanship. Your comment that "their talent was not overwhelming" couldn't be more misplaced.
I don't know who they may have influenced, I just wanted to comment that I enjoyed their performances.@@stevenmeyer9674

These guys were great.
My dad would play "Two sides of the Smothers Brothers" album when we were kids. We loved them decades ago, and we will love them always. They will never be not funny. The best of this one is "People don't come to see us argue!" Oh, yes they did.
